It was good that I took my agoraphobia treatment at an office right around the corner from my house. I live in a pretty secluded part of the city, so I rarely have to be around very big crowds. If I had had to cross Main Street, however, it would have been very difficult for me to get the treatment without an attack of agoraphobia. As it was, it was still pretty scary to leave the house. I knew things had gotten bad when I had to psych myself up just to get myself to go a block away for treatment.
Surprisingly, the first thing that the therapist tried for Agoraphobia Treatment was meditation. He explained to me that being able to calm myself would be a great asset when I was undergoing treatment. Once I mastered the basics of meditation, he moved on to more advanced techniques. He used hypnosis to lay the groundwork, and then began to desensitize me to crowds. So far, it seems to be working.
